When love meets culture -

 with a twist...

Jas Brar - about me

I’ve always been an avid reader and writer, so when it came to writing a book, what else would I write about but the quirks of both my worlds?

I am British of Indian heritage. My marriage was through a family introduction, as was that of many of my family through the generations. Recent TV shows like Netflix’s ‘Indian Matchmaking’ demonstrate it’s not just an outmoded tradition, but a thoughtful and respectful way to find a life-long partner within your cultural community. Having said that, the whole experience can be laugh-out-loud too at times, so when it came to writing a book, what else would I write about?

Many of the events in my stories are similar to experiences I or others I’ve known have had – including the hilarity and the fun.

I hope you'll enjoy Sunita's story and learn a little more about Indian culture too in the process - maybe even change the narrative. Arranged marriage is shown in a bad light as being outdated or proscriptive and not working, and yet it often does...

Arranged marriage has been the subject of several humorous books recently, but from very different standpoints. Sunita’s story sits in the middle of arranged marriage and the DIY western approach of internet dating, and is a light-hearted but genuine debate of the validity of both. Indeed, arranged marriage is remarkably similar to internet dating, in fact!

Within the context of dating and settling down, the story also explores the hopes, fears, families, vulnerabilities, cultural differences – and similarities - of two twenty-somethings - one Indian, one not.

For Sunita, the introduction system is – if not 100% validated – at least debunked from being out of date or restrictive of her right to choose as an independent woman.
